QJH Explores Future Careers

Quinter Junior High students, taking Mrs. Monica Countryman’s Career Exploration class, presented for the community and school from Monday, January 28 through January 31. Over the four day period, students presented on future career options to their classmates, other students in the school, teachers, parents and community members.
These junior high students were challenged to choose a career from their job clusters. There are 16 main job clusters consisting of, though not limited to, law, public safety, air traffic control, farmer/ranch manager, and many others. Over the course of their projects, the junior high students researched the job clusters and the jobs within the cluster that interested them. Then they looked at the cost of the level of education needed for their job interest and made a plan of study for their high school years.
“I thought it was a fun project; learning the different jobs and projects there are,” commented Bryton Mesch.
Students investigated the pros and cons of their jobs. They compared their anticipated salary, along with their time needed to obtain certification, with their anticipated salary. For many, it gave them ideas on careers, others showed careers they were not interested in. Overall, all students gained insight on what courses they would need in high school to prepare for their career cluster as well as the opportunity to look into their future.
