USD 293 Quinter Public Schools to Hold School Tours and Public Information Meetings for the School Bond
As we prepare for another school year, USD 293 Quinter Public Schools is simultaneously preparing for the task of educating district voters regarding the district’s proposed facilities repairs and improvements through a special bond election.
To allow patrons to see the needs and planned work first-hand, community tours will be held at each building. During the tours, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions of the School Board, Facility Committee members, the Superintendent and the district’s construction management firm overseeing the project.
School tours with question-and-answer sessions are scheduled at Quinter Elementary School for August 17 at 6:00 p.m. The elementary tour will convene in the elementary school gymnasium. The school will hold an informational meeting at the Missouri Flats one room school house on Thursday, August 25th at 7:00 pm. The purpose of this meeting is to allow district patrons from the southern area of the district to participate in a question and answer session concerning the proposed bond. The High School tour will take place on August 29 at 7:00 p.m. commencing in the Ethel Jamison Auditorium.
The district is providing information about the planned bond projects and their costs in the local newspaper, district Facebook and website, the ParentSquare App, handouts at school events, and display boards around the community. A direct mailing to registered voters will be sent around August 15.
The special election concerning a $15.4 million for facility repairs and renovations will be held on September 6.
USD 293 Quinter Public Schools has received official approval from the Kansas State Department of Education to place a school bond question on the ballot. The district has also received approval from the City of Quinter to place a proposed 1 percent citywide sales tax on the ballot to provide monetary support for the bond. A special election for $15.4 million for facility repairs and renovations and the citywide sales tax will be held on Tuesday, September 6.
The USD 293 board of education has engaged in extensive study of their school facilities issues over the past 24 months. A facilities assessment was conducted by a team of engineers and architects in 2020. In November 2021, the facilities assessment was followed by a survey of district patrons concerning their prioritization of facility needs.
The district will begin distribution of informational materials about the bond projects in July and August when staff begin to return from summer break. Information will include the planned improvements, costs for improvements and specific costs to taxpayers. In addition to putting out information about the bond, the public will have several opportunities to tour the facilities and ask any and all questions about the planned work.
The district plans to disseminate information to district patrons using a variety of methods. These will include the Gove County Advocate, the school district Facebook site, the district website, the ParentSquare App, handouts at school events, display boards around the community, and direct mailings to registered voters. In addition, community tours will be held with question and answer sessions to follow.
Public forums with question-and-answer sessions are scheduled for August 17th, for the elementary building at 6:00 pm and August 29th at 7:00 pm for the junior high/high school facilities.
